For obvious security reasons, a trip to Iraq Friday by a congressional delegation was supposed to be secret.  Even the few select media outlets that knew of the trip had kept it quiet.

That is, until Rep. Peter Hoekstra twittered his arrival in Baghdad:  “Just landed in Baghdad.  I believe it may be first time I’ve had bb service in Iraq.  11th trip here,” Hoekstra messaged from his BlackBerry.  That’s a pretty surprising screw-up for Hoekstra, the Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee and normally a smart guy.  Hopefully he won’t be along for the ride when President Obama eventually makes his way over to Iraq.

Lost in this news is the obvious: one can now get BlackBerry service in Baghdad.  Aren’t you glad we spent over a half trillion dollars to bring Twitter to the Iraqis?
